IIMPACT is a forum created by the PAN- IIM (Indian Institutes of Management) alumni in Singapore.
Singapore is home to more than 1,800 IIM alumni, probably the largest single city presence outside of India. Our alumni are present in MNCs, GLCs, Academia, Consulting organizations and increasingly many have turned entrepreneurs. The forum has been a highly successful and sought-after event amongst the broad Indian professional community.
Since the first IIMPACT in 2005, the event has grown in stature and impact. It has evolved beyond alumni networking to a more inclusive, global networking platform reaching beyond Singapore. Key success drivers of IIM Summit includes the opportunity to hear inspiring and thought-provoking speakers and panelists on a wide range of subjects in a single forum.
We have enjoyed strong and visible support from the Singapore government for IIMPACT. PM Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, DPM Mr. Teo Chee Hean, DPM Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Finance Minister Mr. Heng Swee Keat have been guests of honor. Late Mr. S. R. Nathan, the sixth President of Singapore, was the Patron for PIIMA and IIMPACT. Other prominent speakers have included corporate leaders Piyush Gupta CEO DBS, Sunny Verghese CEO Olam, and other thought leaders like Raghuram Rajan Economist, former RBI Governor, and Sadhguru, to name a few.
Mr Chan Chun Sing is Minister for Trade and Industry, responsible for driving Singapore’s economic and industrial development. He was appointed to this role and as Minister-in-charge of the Public Service from 1 May 2018. Mr Chan is also Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association since 1 October 2015.
Mr Chan was Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) from 4 May 2015 to 22 May 2018. At NTUC, he expanded the Labour Movement network to represent all working people in Singapore, and led efforts to curate and deliver timely and relevant training for workers. Mr Chan also served as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office from 9 April 2015 to 30 April 2018, upon relinquishing his prior appointments as Minister for Social and Family Development (MSF) and Second Minister for Defence, both of which he had held since 1 September 2013. At MSF, he was responsible for improving social service delivery, enhancing social safety nets and strengthening support for families in Singapore.
His other previous appointments included Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (21 May 2011 to 31 October 2012) and Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts (21 May 2011 to 31 July 2012).
Mr Chan served with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) from 1987 to 2011. He held various appointments, including Chief of Army (2010 to 2011), Chief of Staff, Joint Staff (2009 to 2010) and Commander 9th Division / Chief Infantry Officer (2007 to 2009). He left the SAF to run in the 2011 General Election and was elected Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
Educated at the Raffles Institution (1982 to 1985) and Raffles Junior College (1986 to 1987), Mr Chan was awarded the SAF (Overseas) and President’s Scholarship to study Economics at Christ’s College, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 1988 and graduated with First Class Honours. Mr Chan was awarded the Distinguished Master Strategist Award 1998 by the US Army Command and Staff College. In 2005, he completed the Sloan Fellows Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship.
Born in 1969, Mr Chan is married with three children and enjoys reading and jogging.

Kailash Satyarthi was born in the Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh in India. After completing an electrical engineering degree, he worked as a teacher in the area. In 1980, he left teaching and founded the organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan, which has freed thousands of children from slave-like conditions. He has also been active in a wide range of other organizations working against child labor and for children's rights to education. Kailash Satyarthi is married and has a son and a daughter.
Much of the world's population, especially in poor countries, is made up of children and young people. To achieve a peaceful world, it is crucial that the rights of children and young people be respected. Following the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian activist Kailash Satyarthi has waged a peaceful struggle to stop children being exploited as labor instead of attending school. He has also contributed to the development of international conventions on the rights of children.

Mr. Jawed Ashraf joined as High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore in November 2016.
A career diplomat, High Commissioner Ashraf joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991. He served in Frankfurt and Berlin from 1993 to 1999. He worked in the Americas Division of Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 1999 to 2004. He completed a three-year tenure as Counsellor at the Embassy in Kathmandu in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Counsellor and Minister for Political Affairs in Washington DC and then headed the Americas Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2010 to 2012.
High Commissioner Ashraf served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister‘s Office under former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and then Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. His portfolio included External Affairs, Defence, National Security Council, Atomic Energy and Space. He returned to Ministry of External Affairs in January 2016 and was Joint Secretary (Special Projects) until his appointment in Singapore.
High Commissioner Ashraf studied Economics at St. Stephen‘s College, New Delhi and Management at Master‘s level at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
He recently published a coffee table book of his photographs, “A Day in the Life of Kathmandu”, dedicated to the victims of the Nepal earthquake of April 2015. Outdoor interests include tennis and trekking in Himalaya.
He is married to Dr. Ghazala Shahabuddin, an ecologist and conservation biologist.

Peter is a first - generation college graduate, born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with a double major, from Johns Hopkins University and spent his junior year abroad completing the General Course in International Relations at the London School of Economics. Peter holds master’s degrees from Oxford University (Lady Margaret Hall) and Harvard University (Graduate School of Design), where he was selected Marshal of his class, and has completed UCLA’s Certificate in College Counseling with Distinction and IECA’s Summer Training Institute.
As a student, he received numerous awards and accolades, including the Graduate Merit Award for study at the London School of Economics, Harvard GSD Alumni Council Unsung Hero Book Prize (awarded to the student that contributes most to student life outside of the classroom), the Harvard GSD Colloredo-Mansfeld Prize for Superior Achievement in Real Estate Studies, the Harvard Real Estate Consortium Founders’ Award, and membership in the Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key, Order of Omega and Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Societies.

Starting out as an actuary, there is very little that Walter de Oude does not know about life insurance. As the founder and CEO of Singapore Life, he has achieved what many thought to be an almost impossible task - starting a life insurance company from scratch. This is a role for which he is very well suited - having had diverse experience in the industry in a variety technical actuarial roles with reinsurers and consulting firms, product development, marketing and C-Suite roles. Prior to starting Singapore Life, Mr de Oude was CEO of HSBC Insurance (Singapore), a member of the HSBC Bank Exco, and on the Board of HSBC Asset Management. He has lived in Singapore predominantly since 2000, and considers Singapore to be his long term home.

Mr. Apar Gupta is Executive Director of the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF). After graduating from Columbia University Law School, he was a commercial litigator in top Indian law firms and partner at Advani & Co. He has conducted courses on law and technology at NLS, Bangalore and NLU, Delhi. His writing includes op-eds, journal articles and legal commentary on the Information Technology Act, 2000 published by Lexis Nexis. From 2015, he has worked extensively on public interest issues, including strategic litigation and organisation of campaigns and collectives. In courts, his work as a lawyer includes key digital rights cases on privacy and censorship. Beyond court work he has worked extensively with activists and government institutions in public campaigns to advance net neutrality, reform defamation laws, fight against internet shutdowns and introduce a strong privacy statute.

Piyush is Chief Executive Officer and Director of DBS Group. Prior to joining DBS, Piyush was Citigroup’s Chief Executive Officer for Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Saket Modi is Co-founder and CEO of Lucideus, an enterprise cybersecurity platforms' company. He founded Lucideus in 2012 during his final year of computer science engineering. Incubated at IIT Bombay and backed by Cisco's former Chairman and CEO John Chambers, Lucideus protects Fortune 500 companies around the world with its cyber risk measurement and mitigation platform called SAFE. The product was recognized among Top Innovations of 2018 by Forbes Magazine. Dr. Madan M. Oberoi is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 1992 batch. He is a Fulbright Scholar in the area of "Cyber Security" from University of Washington. He holds a PhD in the area of cybercrime from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He also holds a Master’s Degree in ‘Management and Systems’ from IIT Delhi and another Master’s Degree in Police Management.
Dr. Oberoi is presently deployed as Executive Director, Technology & Innovation, INTERPOL, and is located at Singapore. As part of this, he supervises Information Systems & Technology Directorate; Directorate of Innovation Centre; and Capacity Building & Training Directorate of INTERPOL.
Till May 2019, Dr. Oberoi was heading the Special Cell of Delhi Police, which is responsible for conducting Anti-Terror operations and combating cybercrime & organized crime. He was also concurrently handling the additional Charge of Adviser (ICT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He was also instrumental in the setting up of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at the National level. He was also the founding Director General (DG) of I4C, a charge he held in addition to his other roles till May 2019.
Dr. Oberoi was earlier deployed as Director Cybercrime of INTERPOL, from 2014 to 2017. He has also worked as Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and as Superintendent of Police with Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Sunita Mohanty is Director of Trust & Safety at Google Singapore. Her team protect Google users and make our products safe by fighting a wide spectrum of online abuse like Fraud, Spam, Data privacy and low quality content, with a special focus to create User trust. She also leads the Child Safety initiative across Google Products.
In addition to her current role, Sunita has also worked closely with the State and Central governments in India in creating a connected, digitized and sustainable Internet ecosystem. She also leads community outreach activities to create awareness around online safety, data privacy and women empowerment across India. Mr. Popatrao Pawar is the Sarpanch of Hiware Bazar, a village that lies in the drought-prone district of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Limited rainfall and poor water management had led to a string of social and economic problems such as unemployment, poverty, migration and alcoholism. In 1990, under the leadership of Mr. Pawar the village embarked on a development initiative that focused on soil and water conservation, sustainability and social change. Hiware Bazar is today in the top income deciles in India, has near universal literacy and safe water and sanitation for all. The work done by Mr. Pawar has been widely recognized at various international, national and state level fora. He is today working with the Government of Maharashtra in helping the rural transformation programs across the state.

Suresh Rajan is the Chief Executive Officer of LCR Capital Partners and has served in that capacity since founding the firm in 2012.
Prior to launching LCR, Suresh was the Chief Executive Officer of multiple private equity funded franchise businesses. An experienced multi-unit operator, Suresh’s focus was on real estate selection, market development, finance and human resources.
Before entering private equity, Suresh had an extensive career in management consulting and politics. As a McKinsey & Company consultant, Suresh worked primarily in the areas of strategy development, principal investing/mergers and acquisitions, warehousing & distribution and e-commerce. Suresh served a variety of clients that were leaders in the media, telecom, pulp & paper, petroleum and optical industries. As a political consultant, he guided the Washington, D.C. – based John Quincy Adams Society policy forum as its first Executive Director and worked as a policy advisor for several Members of Congress. Suresh also acted as a negotiator on several international trade agreements (GATT and NAFTA), recruited candidates to run for political office, assisted in the development of their congressional campaigns, and helped develop legislation affecting the banking, telecom, and healthcare industries.

Dr. Vinika Devasar Rao is the Executive Director of the INSEAD Emerging Markets Institute. Vinika started her career with a multinational bank in India, went on to become General Manager of an American Asian JV in the field of industrial chemicals and later became the Managing Director of an Indonesian conglomerate. She co-founded a boutique advisory firm in Singapore before making a serendipitous transition to education. Prior to joining INSEAD, she was Associate Professor of Strategy at the S.P. Jain Center of Management, Singapore. She completed her doctorate from the Singapore Management University in the area of gender diversity in corporate leadership. Vinika’s research interests are leadership diversity, millennials and inter-generational influences on the workplace, and emerging markets strategy. Vinika is an alumnus of IIMB.

Ms. Latha Reddy is Co-Chair of the Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace.
Ms. Reddy served in the Indian Foreign Service from 1975-2011. During her diplomatic career she served in Lisbon, Washington D.C., Kathmandu, Brasilia, Durban, Vienna and Bangkok. She served as Ambassador of India to Portugal (2004-2006) and Thailand (2007-2009). She was Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi (2010-2011) with overall charge of India’s bilateral and regional relations with Asia.
She was then appointed as India’s Deputy National Security Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office from 2011-2013, where in addition to assisting National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, Ms. Reddy was responsible for cybersecurity and other critical internal and external security issues. She also served as a Commissioner on the Global Commission on Internet Governance.
Ms. Reddy has extensive experience in foreign policy, and in bilateral, regional and multilateral negotiations. In addition, she has expertise on security and strategic issues and has worked on strategic technology policies, particularly on cyber issues relating to cyber security policy, international cyber cooperation and Internet governance.
Ms. Reddy is involved with several organizations and think-tanks globally. She is currently, among other positions, serving as a Distinguished Fellow in the EastWest Institute in the US, the Observer Research Foundation in India, and the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Canada.

In his capacity as Co-President for Asia Pacific at Mastercard, Ari Sarker oversees all of the company’s activities in the region including sales, business development, business strategy, public policy, and relationships with card issuers, governments, merchants and merchant acquirers. He is also a member of the company’s Global Management Committee.
Ari has been with Mastercard since 2011 and until June ’15 was Mastercard’s Division President for South Asia and Country Corporate Officer, India. Ari provided leadership to the South Asia team to drive core business growth and executing on the nascent but fast rising emerging payments opportunities.
In his initial role in Mastercard as Head of Network Processing for AP & MEA, Ari developed significant engagement across the markets of AP & MEA on various partnership discussions with domestic switches and regulators on building an open vibrant payment market environment. In addition, he has played an active role in leading, managing and identifying new equity investment opportunities covering switch acquisitions to acquisition / partnership in other areas of the business including bill payment, pre-paid and transit across the region.
Prior to joining Mastercard, Ari spent over 12 years with GE in a variety of senior roles in accounting, audit, corporate finance, and private equity across several key markets in the Americas, Europe, & Asia Pacific. In his last role prior to Mastercard, Ari led the GE Private Equity business in India. His first role after university was working in the financial services group of Price Waterhouse in their London office.

General Waste Collection Regulation & Enforcement Unit at National
Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore. His group works closely with the Waste

of new policies & requirements, upgrading of standards and professionalism
of the waste management industry and prevention of illegal dumping. He has

Mr. Jawed Ashraf joined as High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore in November 2016.
A career diplomat, High Commissioner Ashraf joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991. He served in Frankfurt and Berlin from 1993 to 1999. He worked in the Americas Division of Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 1999 to 2004. He completed a three-year tenure as Counsellor at the Embassy in Kathmandu in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Counsellor and Minister for Political Affairs in Washington DC and then headed the Americas Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2010 to 2012.
High Commissioner Ashraf served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister‘s Office under former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and then Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. His portfolio included External Affairs, Defence, National Security Council, Atomic Energy and Space. He returned to Ministry of External Affairs in January 2016 and was Joint Secretary (Special Projects) until his appointment in Singapore.
High Commissioner Ashraf studied Economics at St. Stephen‘s College, New Delhi and Management at Master‘s level at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
He recently published a coffee table book of his photographs, “A Day in the Life of Kathmandu”, dedicated to the victims of the Nepal earthquake of April 2015. Outdoor interests include tennis and trekking in Himalaya.
He is married to Dr. Ghazala Shahabuddin, an ecologist and conservation biologist.

Starting out as an actuary, there is very little that Walter de Oude does not know about life insurance. As the founder and CEO of Singapore Life, he has achieved what many thought to be an almost impossible task - starting a life insurance company from scratch. This is a role for which he is very well suited - having had diverse experience in the industry in a variety technical actuarial roles with reinsurers and consulting firms, product development, marketing and C-Suite roles. Prior to starting Singapore Life, Mr de Oude was CEO of HSBC Insurance (Singapore), a member of the HSBC Bank Exco, and on the Board of HSBC Asset Management. She co-founded a boutique advisory firm in Singapore before making a serendipitous transition to education. Prior to joining INSEAD, she was Associate Professor of Strategy at the S.P. Till May 2019, Dr. Oberoi was heading the Special Cell of Delhi Police, which is responsible for conducting Anti-Terror operations and combating cybercrime & organized crime. He was also concurrently handling the additional Charge of Adviser (ICT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He was also instrumental in the setting up of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at the National level. He was also the founding Director General (DG) of I4C, a charge he held in addition to his other roles till May 2019.

In 1990, under the leadership of Mr. Pawar the village embarked on a development initiative that focused on soil and water conservation, sustainability and social change. The work done by Mr. Pawar has been widely recognized at various international, national and state level fora. Suresh Rajan is the Chief Executive Officer of LCR Capital Partners and has served in that capacity since founding the firm in 2012.
Prior to launching LCR, Suresh was the Chief Executive Officer of multiple private equity funded franchise businesses. An experienced multi-unit operator, Suresh’s focus was on real estate selection, market development, finance and human resources.
Before entering private equity, Suresh had an extensive career in management consulting and politics. As a McKinsey & Company consultant, Suresh worked primarily in the areas of strategy development, principal investing/mergers and acquisitions, warehousing & distribution and e-commerce. Suresh served a variety of clients that were leaders in the media, telecom, pulp & paper, petroleum and optical industries. As a political consultant, he guided the Washington, D.C. – based John Quincy Adams Society policy forum as its first Executive Director and worked as a policy advisor for several Members of Congress. He was appointed to this role and as Minister-in-charge of the Public Service from 1 May 2018. Mr Chan is also Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association since 1 October 2015.
Mr Chan was Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) from 4 May 2015 to 22 May 2018. At NTUC, he expanded the Labour Movement network to represent all working people in Singapore, and led efforts to curate and deliver timely and relevant training for workers. Mr Chan also served as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office from 9 April 2015 to 30 April 2018, upon relinquishing his prior appointments as Minister for Social and Family Development (MSF) and Second Minister for Defence, both of which he had held since 1 September 2013. At MSF, he was responsible for improving social service delivery, enhancing social safety nets and strengthening support for families in Singapore.
His other previous appointments included Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (21 May 2011 to 31 October 2012) and Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts (21 May 2011 to 31 July 2012).
Mr Chan served with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) from 1987 to 2011. He held various appointments, including Chief of Army (2010 to 2011), Chief of Staff, Joint Staff (2009 to 2010) and Commander 9th Division / Chief Infantry Officer (2007 to 2009). He left the SAF to run in the 2011 General Election and was elected Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
Educated at the Raffles Institution (1982 to 1985) and Raffles Junior College (1986 to 1987), Mr Chan was awarded the SAF (Overseas) and President’s Scholarship to study Economics at Christ’s College, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 1988 and graduated with First Class Honours. Mr Chan was awarded the Distinguished Master Strategist Award 1998 by the US Army Command and Staff College. In 2005, he completed the Sloan Fellows Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship.
Born in 1969, Mr Chan is married with three children and enjoys reading and jogging.
